The Rosemount 2051TG4A employs a differential capacitive sensing principle, a proven technology renowned for its stability and accuracy in harsh industrial conditions. When in operation, process pressure from gas, liquid, or steam is transmitted to the transmitter's isolation diaphragms—one on the high-pressure side and one on the low-pressure side. These isolation diaphragms, paired with a specialized fill fluid, act as a barrier between the process medium and the internal sensing element, protecting the delicate components while ensuring efficient pressure transfer.
The fill fluid, typically silicone oil or inert oil, transmits the applied pressure to a central sensing diaphragm—a taut elastic element designed to deflect proportionally to the pressure exerted upon it. The maximum deflection of this sensing diaphragm is a mere 0.004 inches (0.1 millimeters), ensuring minimal wear and tear while maintaining high sensitivity. For gauge pressure measurements, the low-pressure side of the sensing diaphragm is exposed to atmospheric pressure, serving as a reference point. In contrast, absolute pressure configurations maintain a fixed reference pressure on the low-pressure side, enabling precise measurement relative to a vacuum.
