 Working Principle
The Rosemount 5300 operates based on the guided wave radar (GWR) technology, which is a type of time domain reflectometry (TDR) technique. It sends low-energy microwave pulses down a probe that is immersed in the process medium. When the microwave pulses encounter a change in dielectric constant, such as the interface between two different liquids or the surface of a liquid or solid, a portion of the energy is reflected back to the transmitter. The time delay between the transmitted and reflected pulses is precisely measured, and from this delay, the distance to the reflecting surface is calculated, thereby determining the level or interface position.
