The FTM50 features a tuning fork-shaped sensor (fork body) that is excited into resonant vibration by an internal piezoelectric drive. In the absence of bulk solids (empty condition), the fork vibrates at its natural resonant frequency, typically determined by the sensor's material properties, geometry, and mechanical design. When the fork comes into contact with the bulk solid material (filled condition), the solid particles dampen the vibration, causing a measurable shift in the resonant frequency, amplitude, or phase of the oscillation.
