The RM8600D Vortex Flowmeter operates based on the principle of the von Kármán vortex street. When a fluid either liquid or gas flows through a bluff body also known as a shedder bar placed in the flow path, alternating vortices are generated on the downstream side of the bluff body. These vortices are created due to the separation of the fluid flow around the bluff body.
The frequency of these vortices is directly proportional to the velocity of the fluid. The RM8600D is equipped with a highly sensitive sensor that can detect the pressure fluctuations caused by the passing vortices. This sensor converts the mechanical vibrations into electrical signals. The flowmeter's internal electronics then analyze these electrical signals to determine the frequency of the vortices.
