Utilizing vibrating fork (vibronic) technology, this solid-state device detects the presence or absence of media through precise frequency shift analysis, ensuring accurate high/low level switching without mechanical wear. Ideal for applications in chemical processing, water treatment, food and beverage, and pharmaceuticals, the FTL50 combines advanced diagnostics with rugged construction to deliver unmatched operational safety and efficiency.
Technical Overview The FTL50 operates on a tuning fork principle, where two vibrating prongs continuously oscillate at a default frequency of approximately 1200 Hz. Upon contact with liquid or solid media, the frequency shifts, triggering an immediate switch signal (SPDT relay or NAMUR output). This mechanism ensures rapid response times of less than 1 second, critical for preventing tank overfills, pump dry-running, or process deviations. The sensor supports media densities as low as 0.7 g/cm³, making it suitable for light hydrocarbons, foaming liquids, and even powdered solids in silos.
Constructed with 316L stainless steel wetted parts and FKM/EPDM seals, the FTL50 resists corrosion from aggressive chemicals, acids, and solvents. For extreme applications, optional Hastelloy® probe materials are available. The device withstands process temperatures ranging from -50°C to +150°C (-58°F to +302°F), with high-temperature variants rated up to +200°C (+392°F). Its IP66/IP68 and NEMA 4X protection ratings ensure reliable performance in submerged, dusty, or outdoor installations, while a pressure rating of 40 bar (580 psi) at ambient conditions makes it suitable for pressurized tanks and pipelines.
