Working Principle1
During operation, the isolation diaphragms on the high - and low - pressure sides and the filling fluid transmit the process pressure to the filling fluid, which then transfers the pressure to the sensing diaphragm at the center of the sensor. The sensing diaphragm is a tensioned elastic element, and its displacement varies with the applied pressure. For the GP gauge pressure transmitter, the atmospheric pressure acts on the low - pressure side of the sensing diaphragm. For the AP absolute pressure transmitter, the low - pressure side always maintains a reference pressure. The maximum displacement of the sensing diaphragm is 0.004 inches (0.1 mm), and the displacement is directly proportional to the pressure. The capacitive plates on both sides detect the position of the sensing diaphragm. The difference in capacitance between the sensing diaphragm and the capacitive plates is converted into a corresponding current, voltage, or digital HART output signal.
In tanks and vessels, the 3051CD can be used to measure the liquid level. By measuring the differential pressure between the bottom and the top of the tank (taking into account the density of the liquid), the transmitter can accurately determine the height of the liquid column. This is essential in industries such as oil and gas, where accurate level measurement in storage tanks is crucial for inventory management and safety.
In some processes, the differential pressure measurement can also be used to infer the density of a fluid. By measuring the differential pressure at different points in a column of fluid and knowing the height difference, the density of the fluid can be calculated. This is useful in applications such as the food and beverage industry, where the density of a liquid product can indicate its quality and composition.
